Bel-Art - Fragrance oil H. Charles 10 ml - benzoin

Scent: benzoin

Saint Charles was actually called Youssef Antoun Makhlouf and was a monk of the Lebanese-Maronite order who retired in the late 19th century in a hermitage near the Abbey of St Maron of Annaya in the mountains north of Beirut. He was canonised by Pope Paul VI in 1975. The monastery of Saint-Charbel at Bois-Seigneur-Isaac attracts tens of thousands of believers every year. The fragrant benzoin resin is usually offered dried and is excellent for burning incense. In India, benzoin is a component of incense mixtures in temples. In the Russian Orthodox Church, benzoin (and not the resin of the real incense tree) is the main ingredient of church incense. Papier d'Arménie (Armenian paper) incense gives off an intense benzoin fragrance. Benzoin is also used in the production of perfumes; it is particularly suitable for oriental and warm scent compositions and also serves as a fixative. In the Roman Catholic Church, the resin is a component of balsam oil. This oil is used when administering the sacrament of anointing of the sick (formerly known as "last rites").HLP/AO/CHA
